A new era has begun for the Los Angeles Chargers, as they have hired Jim Harbaugh to be their new head coach.
Harbaugh brings years of knowing how to build a winning program and culture wherever he has gone, whether it has been the San Francisco 49ers or the University of Michigan, which he led to the College Football Playoff National Championship just a month ago.
Harbaugh’s staff is starting to take shape, and he is expected to bring Michigan defensive line coach Mike Elston with him to L.A. to serve in the same capacity, per Tom Pelissero.
Elston started his coaching career with Michigan back in 1997 right after spending four seasons with them as a player at the outside linebacker position.
He then had stints at Eastern Michigan University, Central Michigan University, and the University of Cincinnati before heading to Notre Dame in 2010.
He spent a dozen seasons at Notre Dame before heading back to Michigan to serve under Harbaugh.
Elston is just one of several former Michigan coaches that are anticipated to follow Harbaugh to Southern California and join the Chargers; Jesse Minter is projected to be the defensive coordinator for Los Angeles.
Furthermore, Greg Roman—who previously served as Harbaugh’s associate head coach at Stanford University and offensive coordinator in San Francisco—will be a key member of the Bolts coach’s staff.
