Michigan football needed cornerback depth, which is why landing a former FCS All-American would be a huge addition at this point in the offseason.
The absence of depth at cornerback was one of Michigan football’s greatest problems heading into the 2024 campaign.
Will Johnson of Michigan football may be the best cornerback in college football. However, the team does not have another established player who is prepared to start. Jyaire Hill has skill. The 6-foot-2 defensive back was rated in the top 200 overall back class for 2023 after playing well in the spring.
However, producing in the fall is not the same as looking nice in the spring. Since DJ Waller moved to Kentucky, Michigan has been attempting to hedge its bets.
Michigan football needed to add at least one cornerback via the portal this spring but things were looking bleak after Terrance Brooks committed to Illinois, not Michigan.
The Wolverines, however, had different objectives in mind. It was Aamir Hall, the cornerback for Albany. In 2023, the 200-pound, 6-foot-1 cornerback was named an FCS All-American after 15 pass breakups and five interceptions.
Hall also recorded 13 pass breakups in a season at Richmond. His ball skills are excellent, and it’s no laughing matter that he was named an FCS All-American.
Following the transfer cornerback’s visit to Michigan football on Wednesday, Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports said that Hall is anticipated to announce his commitment to Michigan.
After that came some expert forecasts from On3.com’s Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos, along with some crystal ball predictions from 247 Sports.
It appears that Hall’s move to Michigan is finalized. If so, this is wonderful news. You should always have options, and it gives me a lot more peace of mind to think that Hall, Hill, Ja’Den McBurrows, and other players like Myles Pollard and Kody Jones are vying for the starting position.
Hall isn’t exactly an eye-catching option. It’s a straightforward maneuver. Although the transfer may not even get underway, good depth is priceless. In all honesty, Michigan discovered throughout its drive for a national championship that you can never have too many quality corners on your team.
