Simona Halep was thrilled for her former long-time coach Darren Cahill after he guided Jannik Sinner to the 2025 Australian Open title, declaring the 59-year-old “the best coach.”

On Sunday, the Italian won his third Grand Slam in the past 12 months after beating Alexander Zverev 6-3 7-6 (4) 6-3 in the final at Melbourne Park.

In the summer of 2022, the Australian coach joined Sinner’s team.

Under his guidance, the 23-year-old elevated his game to a completely another level – won multiple Slams – reached the world No. 1 spot – and is now widely regarded as the best and most dominant player in the game.

Before the success with the Italian happened, Cahill worked with Halep for six years and the Romanian won two Majors and became world No. 1 during that period.

Sinner paid a beautiful tribute to Cahill

At the start of the Australian Open, the tennis world was left shocked when the Italian announced that the Australian coach would leave his team after the 2025 season to focus on spending more time with his family.

While that may be disappointing for the 23-year-old, he has nothing but good to say about his coach and his influence.

“He’s a very humble person, a very nice person – very,” Sinner said of Cahill.

“I believe that coaching is on court but also off court and he understands me how I am as a person, and he respects all the other team members, me included.

“There are many, many things what makes him very special and I was lucky to get to know him.”

In the same interview, the world No. 1 indicated that he was still hoping that Cahill could maybe change his mind and continue working with him beyond this season.
