Things have not been incredibly smooth for Sherrone Moore since taking over for Jim Harbaugh and at least one future Wolverine has taken notice.
Due to some of the key departures at Michigan, Charlotte (N.C.) West Charlotte athlete Jaden Smith has asked to be released from his National Letter of Intent.
It’s hard to blame the kid. Smith is listed as an athlete because of his size at 6-3, 201 pounds and his overall versatility. He’s lengthy, fast and can really tackle in the open field. Because of those traits, he could play linebacker, safety or even jumbo cornerback at the next level. Unfortunately for Michigan, there isn’t much guidance at any of those spots right now. Obviously Smith’s future head coach is gone with Harbaugh off to the NFL and the Los Angeles Chargers. Linebackers coach Chris Partridge was fired midseason and defensive Also headed to the NFL in Los Angeles is coordinator Jesse Minter. As of a few days ago, safety coach Jay Harbaugh, cornerbacks coach Steve Clinkscale, strength and conditioning coach Ben Herbert, and major draw, all departed. To put it succinctly, Smith is no longer dealing with anyone from Michigan.
Although Smith wasn’t the most highly anticipated player in Michigan’s class, he is the kind of player who has excelled and is a prospect for the NFL after being nurtured at Michigan in previous years. He is very athletic, large, and quick. That he will be playing elsewhere in college is a huge disappointment.
