Michigan football has been making an effort to get an advantage in the recruiting process now that the Wolverines have advanced to the national championship. But the Wolverines almost missed out on a significant five-star quarterback prospect who was previously projected to play for Michigan football. Bryce Underwood, a quarterback for the LSU Tigers, committed to the team yesterday. He played high school football only thirty minutes from Ann Arbor.
Michigan Football Recruiting Target Bryce Underwood Commits To LSU
When it came to five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, Michigan football seemed to be in the lead just a year ago. Underwood is now regarded as the undisputed top recruit in the 2025 class.
Underwood passed for 3,405 yards, 42 touchdowns, and just three interceptions in the previous campaign. As the starting quarterback for Belleville High School, he has a 40-2 record.
In recent months, Michigan football recruiting lost momentum for Underwood and new programs like Colorado and LSU started to take the lead. Yesterday, Underwood finally announced his commitment to be an LSU Tiger.
The Tigers were selected as the top recruit in the 2025 class over Michigan, Alabama, and other schools.

Although the Wolverines are saddened by the loss of recruits, the quarterback position still has promise. Rising talents Jaden Denegal, Jadyn Davis, and Alex Orji are all waiting in the wings for Michigan. Furthermore, blue-chip quarterback recruit Carter Smith from the 2025 class has already committed to the Wolverines.
