Michigan Football Makes Top Five For ’25 5-Star
The Wolverines are making positive ground for a top player in the 2025 cycle.
On Wednesday, during Early Signing Day, Michigan inked all 27 commits for the 2024 cycle. However, the Wolverines intend to recruit a few more players before National Signing Day in February.
The Michigan Wolverines are concentrating on the transfer portal and planning for the 2025 cycle, even as they continue to work on completing up their class of 2024.
Michigan seems to be making good progress in their efforts to sign five-star safety DJ Pickett, who the Wolverines have been pursuing.
Michigan is in the top five, according to Pickett. Oregon, Miami, Georgia, Alabama, and Miami completed the group.
The Composite ranks Pickett, a safety from Tampa (FL) Zephyrhills, as the seventh-best player in the 2025 class. The top-ranked player from the state of Florida is the 6-foot-2 safety.
With One, Pickett discussed his favorite aspects of his top five. He has connections to the program and university because his mother attended Michigan. He and coach Steve Clinkscale are also quite close.
“My mom went to school there, so I have ties to Michigan. Then I have that relationship with Coach Clink (Steve Clinkscale). It is like he is my high school coach. He is easy to talk to and our relationship is really strong.”
Among the five colleges in his top group, he has made the most visits to Ann Arbor. Pickett had four trips to Michigan.
Good news: Another Michigan Football RB Enters Transfer Portal
The Wolverines had their second running back enter the transfer portal.
Michigan hasn’t experienced a high volume of transfers into the transfer portal like many other institutions have. The Wolverines have managed to keep their squad together going into the College Football Playoffs thus far.
Running back CJ Stokes is the only scholarship player from Michigan listed in the transfer portal thus far. Sam Staruch, the walk-on, has also accessed the gateway.
However, the Wolverines now have an additional means of accessing the transfer portal.
Run back with abandon. Leon Franklin declared that he would be staying with Michigan for the College Football Playoffs, but he would be using the transfer portal.

Franklin has been with the Wolverines since 2021 and has played in 29 games at Michigan. In 2021, he had eight carries for 33 yards. In 2022, he carried the ball four times for nine yards. And in 2023, Franklin had 11 carries for 33 yards and a score. He also had a receiving score in 2022.
The Wolverines are loaded at running back and Michigan is bringing in two more running backs in the 2024 cycle. It’s likely Franklin is looking to go somewhere where he can earn more playing time.
Franklin has two years of eligibility remaining.
