Today, on National Signing Day, Jim Harbaugh and his Michigan Wolverines both gained and lost players. While new recruits and a new transfer signed with the program on Wednesday, a new Michigan football transfer portal loss emerged in running back Leon Franklin, who will be looking for a new home, according to Clayton Sayfie of On3.
Report: Another Michigan football transfer portal loss comes on National Signing Day
CJ Stokes and Leon Franklin are the two running backs from Michigan football who currently intend to transfer. It was announced this afternoon that Franklin, who played for the Wolverines from 2020 to 2023 for four years, had accessed the transfer site. Franklin, a graduate student this autumn, has played in 29 games for the Wolverines in the previous several seasons. This fall, he made his debut in 12 games and even scored his first touchdown in the fall running against Minnesota.

Prior to the 2024 season, the former walk-on running back for the Michigan football team stood 5-foot-9 and weighed more than 200 pounds. Though Michigan supporters will surely be sad to see Franklin move, it is probably best for his career to find a school with greater opportunities given that Michigan will have yet another strong running back room come fall.
Though it’s likely that he will, it’s unknown if Leon Franklin will stay with the team for its College Football Playoff run.The Wolverines’ other transfer portal loss, CJ Stokes, similarly declared his intention to stick around until the end of the team’s postseason run, hopefully with a national title.
