The Michigan Wolverines have been looking for a full-time linebackers coach since the fall, and according to After numerous rumors, they’ve finally found their man. Michigan supporters should be familiar with this name: Brian Jean-Mary.

Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider reports that Jean-Mary will oversee the defensive run game for the Wolverines as well.

In 2020, Jean-Mary was the linebackers coach for the Michigan Wolverines. However, after that disappointing campaign, she accepted the same role with the Tennessee Volunteers. Since then, he has lived in Knoxville, and he is now returning to Ann Arbor to take a head coaching position on Sherrone Moore’s first staff.

A well-known recruiter, Jean-Mary helped bring Junior Colson and Jaydon Hood to Michigan. He also reeled in five-star Malik Jefferson, as well as four-stars Jefferson McCulloch, Erick Fowler and Anthony Wheeler when he was the linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Texas. Not to mention, he also recruited a few Michigan targets during his time at Tennessee, including four-star linebacker Arion Carter, four-star linebacker/edge Joshua Joseph and three-star defensive lineman Jordan Phillips.

Being from the state of Florida, Jean-Mary is quite familiar with the southern part of the country, so he should be able to get into the homes of several top prospects who reside in the south.

Along with his stints at Tennessee and Texas, Jean-Mary also has coaching experience at South Carolina (grad assistant), Georgia Tech (linebackers), North Alabama (secondary), Louisville (grad assistant and subsequently as the linebackers and assistant head coach), and USF (assitant head coach/defensive coordinator/linebackers).

Moore has gained a lot from this. Chris Partridge’s dismissal in November left Michigan in need of a linebackers coach. It’s great to see Moore go acquire another experienced coach and recruiter in Jean-Mary; Partridge was a great recruiter as well.

I believe Ann Arbor will welcome Jean-Mary back with open arms, as long as Michigan fans can move over the fact that he referred to the Big House as a “tennis crowd.”
