£3.6m Celtic star ‘subject’ of late bidding war as Southampton, West Brom and more set to make move
Celtic winger Liel Abada faces an uncertain future at Parkhead despite signing a contract extension just four months ago.
Up to three Championship clubs are reportedly eyeing the Israeli international, and it’s also thought that sides from the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 are closely monitoring the situation.
Abada has mostly been a success story in Glasgow since his £3.6m move from Maccabi Petah Tikva F.C. He won the league title in his first two seasons in Scotland in addition to winning two League Cups and the Scottish Cup.
The 22-year-old scored 10 Premiership goals in each of his two previous seasons, becoming him the only non-European player to do so and winning the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year title in the process.
Abada’s strong displays in his first two campaigns earned him a contract extension which now runs until 2027. However, he has endured a frustrating first campaign and has only recently returned to the first team set up after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The Daily Mail claims that the likes of Southampton, Watford and West Brom are all hoping to land the player on loan in a bid to boost their promotion hopes.
The player’s “challenging situation” at Celtic Park in light of the current war between Israel and Palestine is said to have sparked this interest.
According to The Daily Record, a number of Parkhead supporters who are pro-Palestine have expressed doubts about Abada’s ability to stay in Glasgow in the long run given the ongoing confrontation with Israel.
Former Celtic player Nir Bitton has been outspoken in his criticism of the Hoops’ supporters, and he has received advice from a number of Israeli international teammates and analysts back home to leave the Scottish champions as soon as possible.
