“Psychological issue”… Paul Merson makes comment about Man City ahead of FA Cup clash vs Tottenham
Paul Merson has been discussing Friday’s FA Cup clash between Manchester City and Tottenham.
The 55-year-old made the comments when writing in his column for Sky Sports.
So, what did Paul Merson write about Manchester City? Let’s take a look…
Paul Merson sends message to Manchester City
Well, the Sky Sports pundit believes defeat for Pep Guardiola in north London could cause a “psychological issue” for Manchester City later this season.
Merson wrote: “Man City still haven’t scored a goal at Tottenham’s new stadium yet, so they will take that very seriously. It’s not a great place for them to go, so they want to break that hoodoo.
“City will have psychological problems if they lose this game, either 1-0 or 2-0 again, because they have to travel to Tottenham later in the Premier League season.”
Merson raises a compelling argument.
Since Tottenham relocated to their new stadium, Manchester City has, for whatever reason, been unable to hurt Spurs in N17. Guardiola will undoubtedly want to go past this mental obstacle prior to the Premier League match in north London.
This specific match is scheduled for April 20th, which is a critical date in the Premier League title battle because there will only be a few games left by then.
Tottenham clash is a huge test
Following their treble victory the previous season, Manchester City has already surmounted some obstacles this year.
Without Kevin De Bruyne, for instance, Guardiola has managed to keep the Citizens competitive for the Premier League title. In addition, Manchester City has won the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup after losing to Arsenal in the FA Community Shield.
Now that Manchester City is beginning to regain its rhythm, a victory over Tottenham in north London would be a significant step forward.
