‘It’s never enough’ – Heung-min Son says Spurs squad need to ‘demand more’ from each other
Son Heung-min described Tottenham’s performance against Newcastle United as ‘fantastic’ but admitted that he and his teammates need to continue to show the same ruthlessness in the final third.
Spurs’ biggest problem over the past few weeks has been their incapacity to eliminate the opponent from the game, even when they are playing absolutely dominantly.
Since the beginning of November, Tottenham has suffered several setbacks as a result of that, and after Thursday’s defeat to West Ham United, Ange Postecoglou seems to be losing patience.
In their match against Newcastle, the Australian coach got a response from his squad as the Lilywhites’ unrelenting assault utterly demolished the opponent.
This time, Spurs, under the direction of Son, played with much more conviction in the last third. After switching back to the left wing, the South Korean player produced an incredible performance.

The Spurs team must continue to demand more.
After the match, the Tottenham captain said that his team had all it needed to be a championship team, but that the players still needed to push one another hard on the field.
After the 4-1 victory, Son said to Sky Sports, “You enjoy it more when you’re winning.” It’s crucial to recover in that way. We wish to avoid repeating our previous mistakes. I felt that today was excellent. I hope we can maintain our modesty while performing at this level.
We declared we needed to be more merciless. Today we were taking chances and we were brutal. We performed a great job. Beating Newcastle 4-1 is a difficult feat. Give kudos to all the players and supporters; they are a very formidable squad.
Because we play in the Premier League, we have to put more and more pressure on one another. There’s never enough. Those incredible teams never give up. It ought to come naturally to us. We will be a very powerful team if we keep up our current level of strength.
The players responded to Postecoglou’s message that they needed to demonstrate greater conviction; players like Son, Johnson, and Kulusevski assumed greater responsibility against Newcastle instead of second-guessing their performance in the closing minutes.
