Sunday’s FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway is one of three remaining regular season races on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule.

While there has been a flurry of first-time winners over the summer, Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports is going with a familiar face to get it done at Michigan. Pockrass, making his pick for Sunday’s race, went with William Byron to find his way to Victory Lane.

Byron started out hot to open up the season, winning three of the first eight races, including the Daytona 500. He’s been winless since then and hasn’t led a lap dating back to the Coca-Cola 600 in May. So yeah, perhaps Byron is due.

He’s had nine previous starts at Michigan, finishing a career-best second in 2021. Byron will start ninth after Saturday’s qualifying session was scrapped due to rain.

Rounding out Pockrass top-five predictions are Bubba Wallace, Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin and Chris Buescher. Wallace is currently in the playoffs on points, but a win would lock him into the field of 16. He’s riding a strong run of form, recording three consecutive top-10 finishes. He finished second at Michigan in 2022 and will start fifth in Sunday’s race.

Larson not only sits atop the points standings but is the only driver with four wins this season. He is a threat to win week in and week out, but especially at Michigan, where he claimed victories in 2016 and ’17. Larson starts fourth at Michigan.

Will a playoff bubble driver get it done at Michigan?

The same applies to Hamlin, who was tracking towards victory in last Sunday’s race at Richmond before Austin Dillon intentionally wrecked him coming out of Turn 4 on the final lap. Hamlin has five straight top 5s at Michigan and will start from the pole position.

Buescher, like Wallace, could use a win. Perhaps more so, as he is currently occupying the 16th and final playoff spot ahead of Ross Chastain. He is the defending winner at Michigan and starts back in 18th.

Pockrass’ long shot is Erik Jones, who must win in order to qualify for the postseason. Jones will have to come back from 28th, though he’s run well at Michigan during his career. He’s finished P8 and P10, respectively in each of the Next Gen era races at the track.
