Rick Pitino says Kentucky vs. St. John’s series is set
The Kentucky Wildcats will get a game vs. Rick Pitino and St. John’s, but it won’t come until 2025.
According to a report from Adam Zagoria, Pitino revealed on Monday that Kentucky has a series set up with the Red Storm, which will begin in the 2025-26 season at Rupp Arena, followed by a game at Madison Square Garden the following season.
The first matchup will come in the 30th anniversary season of Pitino’s 1995-96 Kentucky Basketball team that won it all and is still regarded as one of the best college hoops teams of all time.
Ever since Mark Pope was hired by Kentucky, the buzz has been building for this series to happen. Pope was a member of that ‘96 championship squad, and the former BYU coach has been set on getting Pitino to Rupp in the near future.
Kentucky hasn’t faced a Pitino-coached team since the 2016-17 season when he was still at Louisville. Fans have been dying to see the Cats get Pitino on the schedule once he jumped back into the coaching ranks at Iona and now at St. John’s, where he just completed his debut season.
Now, we’re finally getting it.
