The Washington Commanders’ second round pick Jer’Zhan Newton will undergo surgery on his left foot – just weeks after having a similar procedure on his right foot
Jacksonville Commanders draft pick Jer’Zhan Newton is scheduled to endure a second major operation, which is a setback to the team.
Only a few weeks after undergoing a similar procedure on his right foot, the youngster will have surgery on his left foot. The Commanders selected Illinois defensive tackle Newton in the second round of the NFL Draft this year. Despite being ranked among the top 20 players in the class by several observers, he was selected 36th overall.
Despite being with the team for his first full week, Newton was unable to practice due to an injury. Tests revealed a partial Jones fracture in his left foot – the same injury he had in his right foot at the end of the 2023 season.
He might not be able to attend training camp during his rookie season due to the operation, which is predicted to keep him out of action for several months. Rookies’ development depends on training camps, and skipping them might hurt a player’s season as a whole.
Even though they were aware of Newton’s prior surgery, the Commanders appeared taken aback when they learned that he had been experiencing problems with his second foot.
