3rd time’s the charm for Kentucky basketball head coach Mark Pope with latest blockbuster commitment
Mark Pope is the new head coach of the Kentucky basketball team after John Calipari left the Wildcats to go coach at Arkansas. Pope recently came close to landing some big transfer portal commits, but he missed on a couple early on. Wednesday has been a big day for him as he has landed commits from Dayton transfer Koby Brea and Kerr Kriisa, a basketball transfer from West Virginia.Pope is assembling a strong team for the upcoming campaign and is beginning to gather some traction.
Jonathan Givony tweeted, “NEWS: West Virginia transfer Kerr Kriisa has committed to Kentucky, he told ESPN.” “After Kriisa left high school and transferred out of Arizona, head coach Mark Pope pursued him twice more before winning his commitment the third time.”
Mark Pope is feeling lucky three times over as he has finally managed to get a commitment from Kerr Kriisa. Pope’s second big commitment of the day is Kriisa, who will be joining the basketball team at Kentucky. Not too bad of a working day.
Kriisa has already moved schools once, so Kentucky will be his third residence. After beginning his basketball career at Arizona, he transferred to West Virginia. He has only appeared in one season of play for the Mountaineers after spending three with the Wildcats.
Kriisa had a historic season last year, averaging over ten points for the first time. At the end of the year, he averaged 2.5 RPG, 4.7 APG, and 11 PPG. He ought to be a valuable member of this Kentucky basketball squad.
Kentucky basketball’s other Wednesday commit: Koby Brea
Kerr Kriisa and Koby Brea both decided to commit to Kentucky on Wednesday, and it made for a big day for Mark Pope and the Wildcats. Brea is one of the best shooters that was in the transfer portal, and he is excited to be coached by Pope.
Koby Brea reportedly stated, “His style of play complements my strengths as a basketball player,” according to an ESPN story. When it comes to making 3-pointers, he has shown himself to be among the greatest. Nobody in college basketball can shoot as well as I can—off the grab, off the bounce, and off the move together.
The Wildcats have added two tremendous players in Kriisa and Brea, but Pope still needs to put in some work this offseason. It will be interesting to see Kentucky basketball’s upcoming season.
