Pablo Fornals left West Ham United and made a switch to Real Betis earlier this year.

On the day of the winter market deadline, West Ham reached an agreement with Real Betis, and his transfer was finalized the next day following the resolution of a technical glitch.

The 28-year-old’s departure from West Ham was one of the subjects he covered in an interview with Canal Sur Radio’s El Pelotazo, which Estadio Deportivo has reprinted.

The season began with the Spain international’s playing time being cut down, but weeks before he left West Ham, he began to enjoy minutes. June was when his contract with the Hammers was supposed to end.

Fornals has recently disclosed his contract position at West Ham, saying that he left the Premier League team because David Moyes would not routinely play him.

“I was participating less this season, but in January I played a lot,” he said.

“My contract was about to expire, and my family and I had already completed our mental cycle in London, so the timing was favorable for me. It would have happened in the summertime if it hadn’t been around Christmas. It would have yielded the same award.

“David told me he couldn’t give me the minutes I was asking for, but I wasn’t the typical football player they wanted to get rid of.”

In 2019, the midfield player moved from Villarreal to West Ham United during Manuel Pellergini’s tenure as the English team’s manager. Fornals, who rejoined his previous manager at Real Betis, has played frequently this season while following his instructions.

Julen Lopetegui will start his West Ham United reign in ambitious fashion as he is targeting players from former clubs Real Madrid and Sevilla, according to reports.

On Monday, West Ham confirmed that David Moyes will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season. The 61-year-old has done brilliantly during his second spell as West Ham manager, helping the club win the Europa Conference League last year, but chiefs at the London Stadium feel they need to go in a new direction.

In a hurry to replace Moyes, the Irons reached an agreement with Lopetegui, who is still a free agent having left Wolverhampton Wanderers shortly before the season began.

Remarkably, Lopetegui turned down a bid from Bayern Munich as well, preferring to coach in the Premier League once more.

It has already been reported that West Ham would let go of elite players like Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus to provide their new manager with a “war chest” for the summer transfer window.

The three players Lopetegui will prioritize are now known from reports. The Sun claims that the Spaniard has a deep admiration for both Marcos Acuna and Youssef En-Nesyri, two players he collaborated with while at Sevilla.

Moroccan center striker En-Nesyri joined Sevilla in January 2020 and has since scored 70 goals in 192 games for the team. Among those are an outstanding 17 strikes from 37 games this season.

In the run-up to the January 2023 transfer window, West Ham was strongly linked to En-Nesyri, but they were unable to come to an agreement. But this time, they should have an easier job signing the attacker because Lopetegui is in charge.

En-Nesyri’s team-mate Acuna could also arrive in East London in the near future. The left-back was a part of the Argentina team which won the World Cup in 2022, while he has made 23 appearances for Sevilla this campaign.

As per reports in Spain, En-Nesyri is not the only striker Lopetegui is interested in as he is also pushing for West Ham to snare Real Madrid’s Joselu.

The 34-year-old is currently on loan at Real Madrid from Espanyol, and there have been rumors that this summer, the move could become permanent. Lopetegui, however, is more interested in adding experience to West Ham’s forward ranks by signing Joselu.

Even though Joselu is nearing the end of his career, he demonstrated earlier this week that he still has the ability to impact important games by helping Real Madrid advance to the Champions League final with a late brace against Bayern Munich.

In the event that West Ham signs those three outstanding players, Joselu and En-Nesyri will probably join the team in place of Danny Ings and Michail Antonio. Aaron Cresswell might be replaced by Acuna in the interim.
