The Los Angeles Lakers reportedly lose the sweepstakes for the best head coach on the market.
The next head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers is being sought after. After the trial with Darvin Ham as head coach for the first time failed, they are apparently searching for an experienced coach. But, given how quickly head coaches are becoming available, they will need to move swiftly if they are to get a top play-caller.
As a matter of fact, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Lakers may have already lost the best head coach on the market. Mike Budenholzer is allegedly set to join the Phoenix Suns, who had earlier on Thursday announced the termination of Frank Vogel.
Suns To Hire Potential Lakers Target Mike Budenholzer
Budenholzer has been one of the names the Lakers have been linked to over the past week. This made plenty of sense as Coach Bud was one of the few head coaches with championship pedigree on the market. He has extensive experience coaching superstars as he worked with Giannis Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee, where he led them to the 2021 championship.
If the Lakers are serious about wanting an experienced coach, they are likely not going to do better than Budenholzer. The former Hawks and Bucks coach has built dominant regular-season teams throughout his career. He is incredibly skilled at developing a strategy, winning over his players, and building defenses that are consistently among the best. Brook Lopez and Antetokounmpo have been acknowledged as two of the league’s top defensive players as a result of his influence.
That seemed like the perfect addition to the Lakers roster. However, the Buss family and general manager Rob Pelinka will now need to start over from nothing. They will either have to settle for a less accomplished head coach or hope Ty Lue becomes available. In either path they decide to go, they had better move fast before additional teams begin looking for a new head coach.
