‘It’s a suspiring one’: Peter Grant reacts to claims Celtic will sign ‘powerful’ player before deadline

Well, it seems that a much-needed striker is going to arrive on Celtic shores before the January transfer window slams shut.

Celtic haven’t been as active as many thought they would be this month, but things could turn up a little bit today.

It’s not a standout name that could be signed, but there are suggestions that Norwich City striker Adam Idah could be joining the champions on a loan deal.

Peter Grant told Go Radio that he is “surprised” by this potential Celtic transfer because the Republic of Ireland player hasn’t exactly had the best season at Norwich City.

The 22-year-old has six goals from 28 Championship games, but he has only played 90 minutes once.

Although Peter Grant made sure to bring up a certain Moussa Dembele and how his record wasn’t exactly stellar prior to joining Celtic from Fulham, that record isn’t likely to get Celtic supporters jumping out of their seats either.

So maybe that one will give the fans some hope, and Kyogo Furuhashi, the star, will suddenly have someone pushing him.

Celtic to sign Adam Idah on a loan deal

“I have seen him play for Norwich, not that often,” said Grant. “Like everybody else, you can see his stats. It’s easy to do nowadays.

“I am always loathed because you look at the statistics and then you look at the goals, then you put the minutes in there and how many has he played and the full 90 minutes. The Championship is a little bit unforgiving for centre-forwards and Norwich haven’t been playing well, so all this for the striker isn’t great, so that’s the negative side of it.

“From the young lad, what I have seen of him, is he the finished article? Far from it. It’s a surprising one. I don’t mean that disrespectfully to the kid because Celtic is something different. There is no getting away from that.

“I am aware of the link with the Republic of Ireland. It’s likely that he has been playing for them more than Norwich lately. He’s a strong young man. He scored a few goals when I first met him. He consistently manages to land in prime spots. His goals and stats weren’t too impressive, just like those of any young striker.

Having said that, Moussa Dembele and I were colleagues at Fulham. Had I been a Celtic striker, would I have suggested Moussa? Probably not, would have been the response. Based on statistics, Moussa required one in six. Up here, Celtic forwards need to be 4 in 6. Ironically, Celtic fans adored Moussa when he left the team with a 1 in 5 rating.

Patience is needed with Idah

There is potential there and Brendan Rodgers has something to work with. Perhaps this sort of signing should have happened in the summer because the player would have had pre-season and much longer to improve his game.

Now, he has to hit the ground running as he gets thrown into the deep end of helping Celtic win two trophies this season.

You will also hope this sparks Kyogo into life because, that striker coming into the dressing room, whilst he will be welcomed.
