Bill O’Brien is heading back to the collegiate coaching ranks after spending the 2023 NFL season in Foxborough with the Patriots.
O’Brien is’set’ to become the new offensive coordinator for the Ohio State Buckeyes, according to ESPN college football analyst Pete Thamel.
The 54-year-old O’Brien is expected to coach the quarterbacks in Columbus as well.
After serving as the Houston Texans’ head coach from 2014 to 2020, O’Brien went back to coaching at the collegiate level in 2021, accepting a position at Alabama under Nick Saban. He was the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator for the Crimson Tide throughout his tenure.
O’Brien is anticipated to take over for head coach Ryan Day as the offensive play caller for the Buckeyes going forward. Brian Hartline, a top recruit and offensive coordinator for 2023, has not yet been assigned a new position.
