Former Springbok coach Jake White has played down concerns over the timing of the Springboks’ alignment camp ahead of the 2025 rugby season. With the camp scheduled close to the start of the international calendar, questions have been raised about player readiness and preparation. However, White believes the modern game no longer relies heavily on long build-up periods.

“It’s not like the old days when we had months to prepare,” said White. “Players are more professional now, and they stay in shape year-round. They also have access to more technology and resources than we ever did.”

White, currently coaching the Bulls, emphasized that most of the national players are already accustomed to the Bok systems due to consistent squad selection and ongoing communication with the national coaching team. He also noted that South African franchises now play a more unified style, making the transition to the national setup smoother.

The Springbok management has reiterated that the alignment camp is focused on strategy and cohesion rather than physical conditioning. With the 2025 Rugby Championship looming, the Boks will look to build on their World Cup success without worrying too much about traditional timelines — something White sees as an evolution, not a risk.
