According to multiple sources :Jedd Fisch to be new Washington HC, wasn’t a ‘priority’ at Arizona
Washington has found a new head coach.
According to multiple sources, Jedd Fisch has agreed to leave Arizona and become the 31st head coach in Washington program history, replacing Kalen DeBoer, who departed for Alabama following Nick Saban’s retirement.
Fisch departs from a program that he helped shape into the nation’s 14th-ranked squad. Arizona might not have done much to keep him around, though.
After the team won ten games for the first time since 2014, the two parties started contract talks. Yet when the Washington opportunity arose, Arizona objected to the accelerated fee for Fisch’s services.
According to Action Network’s Brett McMurphy, the school “wasn’t a priority” when it came to a new contract for Fisch.
Fisch’s exit is stunning, especially considering his previous views. He declared he had “no interest” in traveling outside of Arizona less than two weeks before departing the state.
“I think right now we’re just working through schematics to get this deal done. I think we’re very, very close,” Fisch said on the Jan. 4 episode of ‘The Jim Rome Show.’ “We wanna be done here pretty soon, and we want to be a
member of this program for a long time. To be able to be here now, I’ve moved around a lot in this company. to win ten games, rank in the top 15 — ideally in the top 10 — and to become head coach of a Power 5 program.
According to ESPN’s Chris Low, Fisch will meet with his Arizona teammates on Sunday afternoon to make his decision to move to Washington.
Even if things might be improving for the Huskies, Fisch’s departure might have an impact on the entire program.
Arizona was supposed to bring back 18 of their 22 starters in 2024, but Sunday’s events may cause that to alter.
