Another big-name head coach candidate can be crossed off of Alabama’s list.
According to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports, Mike Norvell and Florida State have inked a huge contract extension. The coach will reportedly receive $10 million annually from the new contract.
Dellenger revealed the information, and Norvell appeared to confirm it with a post on X shortly after.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel said Thursday that Alabama was focusing on two candidates to replace Nick Saban, who
shocked everyone in the sporting world this week by declaring his retirement. Kalen DeBoer of Washington was considered the other possible successor, with Norvell being one of them. To yet, DeBoer has not made any public declarations endorsing the Huskies.
After coaching Memphis for four seasons, Norvell has spent the last four at Florida State. He has a 38-16 record at Memphis and a 31-17 record at FSU. Before the Seminoles were passed over by the College Football Playoff committee this season, the 42-year-old Texas native fully turned the program around and had them 13-0.
There may not be many options left for Alabama, as Norvell is not the only notable coach to declare he is sticking with his present squad.

Timeline for Alabama to name Nick Saban replacement revealed
The Alabama Crimson Tide are making good use of their time as Nick Saban’s replacement.
To be honest, that won’t be simple to accomplish, and the next Alabama coach will undoubtedly have the toughest shoes to fill, but Greg Byrne, the athletic director, is already a step ahead.
Even though he may not have wanted to replace Saban, he is forced to make his boldest move. He also has to do it quickly, because the transfer portal is going to start looking awfully appealing for some of Alabama’s elite talent.
On that front, John Brice over at Football Scoop is reporting that Bryne is hoping to have Saban’s replacement announced to the world by the end of the week.
“Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that today has been an incredibly active day in the Crimson Tide’s ongoing
lookup,” Brice stated. “Byrne has told the program and others within the athletics department that he intends to name Saban’s replacement by the end of this week.”
A number of coaches are included in the Football Scoop article as “serious contenders” to be interviewed by Byrne. On the list are current offensive coordinator for the Crimson Tide Tommy Rees, head coach of Florida State Mike Norvell, and head coach of Washington Kalen DeBoer.
Eli Drinkwitz, the head coach of Missouri, and Mike Locksley, the head coach of Maryland, are two other coaches who have been connected to the position. In 2017 and 2018, Locksley oversaw Alabama’s offensive operations. Drinkwitz recently guided the Missouri Tigers to an amazing 11-2 record following their Cotton Bowl victory against Ohio State.
