Ian Wright issues admission on controversial incident in Everton loss v Tottenham
Ian Wright has reacted to what Sean Dyche said about the controversy in the Everton v Tottenham Hotspur clash on Saturday, 23 December.
The Toffees manager said that Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s disallowed goal should have stood as he watched his side suffer a 2-1 loss to Ange Postecoglou’s team.
However, the referee decided Andre Gomes committed a foul in the build up and did not allow the goal to stand.
Wright spoke on Premier League Productions (December 23, 20:41): “I believe Sean Dyche was correct. To demonstrate that battle for the side that is down 2-0. I believe their luck was bad. It will sting to have a perfectly excellent goal denied.

The Toffees manager’s assertion that VAR over-refereed the moment, overturning the on-field decision based on minimal contact, reflects a growing concern about the frequency of soft decisions impacting the game.
Despite the disappointment, Everton should take the positives from the match and Dyche has rightly commended his team’s outstanding performance, creating chances and posing a threat on the counter.
The Toffees showed tenacity, tactical understanding, and the capacity to cause problems for the hosts after a poor first twenty minutes.
Even if a few players did not execute to their full potential, Dyche’s strategy was undoubtedly successful.
