Packers Rumors: ‘The Heat Is on’ DC Joe Barry, Job Eyed by ‘Many’ NFL Insiders
The Green Bay Packers may not have fired defensive coordinator Joe Barry yet, but his seat is reportedly heating up.
As Green Bay has lost two straight games, Barry, the DC for the Packers, has come under criticism. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, numerous coaches are “on the radar” to take over.
This season, the Packers are 17th in points against and 23rd in yards allowed. For the most part, the club has performed in the middle of the pack, finishing with a 6-8 record overall and outside of the NFC playoff picture.
Following Green Bay’s 34-20 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which included a 381-yard, four-touchdown performance by Baker Mayfield, there were rumors that head coach Matt LaFleur will dismiss Barry on Monday.
LaFleur told reporters, “If I thought that was the best solution today, then we’d make that decision.” “What’s so disappointing to me is that there was poor communication when you’re supposed to be in a certain coverage or rotation and you’re having basic communication issues, so that’s what’s going on.”

LaFleur did admit that, in advance of Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers, he intends to play a more involved defensive style. This week is as good a moment as any for Green Bay’s secondary to turn things around, as the Panthers have failed to score 20 points in any of their past eight games.
Barry might not have to wait until the end of the season for what appears to be likely to happen if Carolina manages to score points. Barry has been the defensive coordinator for Green Bay.
