Updates on the Michigan football sign-stealing controversy as Jim Harbaugh takes the Big Ten ban in the midst of the probe

Jim Harbaugh, the coach, and Michigan have agreed to the Big Ten’s three-game punishment for going against the conference’s code of sportsmanship. In exchange, even as the NCAA conducts its own inquiry, the Big Ten has decided to end its probe into claims of illicit sign theft using cutting-edge scouting and technology.
Even though Harbaugh will miss the final two regular-season games against Ohio State and Maryland, he is permitted to participate in team workouts and other events on non-game days.
“The Big Ten Conference’s commitment to student-athletes, sportsmanship and the Commissioner’s duty to protect the integrity of competition will never waver,” the league office stated in a statement. The Conference and the University aim to sustain high standards and principles, as demonstrated by the University of Michigan’s decision today to rescind its legal appeal against the Conference’s Notice of Disciplinary Action of November 10. As a respected member of the Big Ten Conference, the University of Michigan will continue to collaborate with the Conference and the NCAA throughout this process.”
The subject of the NCAA’s probe is former employee Connor Stalions, who is accused of purchasing tickets for over 30 games, many of which are in the Big Ten, and used “illegal technology” to pilfer signage. On November 3, Stalions announced his resignation from Michigan’s staff. Prior to that, he had been placed on paid leave while the NCAA looked into his case. Having having been involved with the NCAA, Harbaugh has denied knowing about the plot.

Roman Wilson, a wide receiver for Michigan, was spotted donning a “Free Harbaugh” shirt during pregame warmups on Saturday. The game is the second half of coach Jim Harbaugh’s three-game suspension imposed by the Big Ten. Michigan is set to take on Maryland.
Wilson’s outfit follows a number of players who were spotted visiting Penn State last week sporting “Michigan vs. Everybody” jerseys, which were spotted once more on Saturday. Through the end of the 2023 season, expect Harbaugh’s players to be vocal about the circumstances in Ann Arbor.
