Ange Postecoglou now more likely to keep 23-year-old than ‘outstanding’ Tottenham player

After a late challenge on Ryan Yates, Bissouma was indeed given a straight red card and will miss four games of football.

Because of the AFCON next month, the 26-year-old won’t be able to play until at least the end of January.

Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg have had difficulty getting starts this term because of the form of Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr.

The latter has apparently been strongly connected to leaving the team, with Juventus being interested.

Furthermore, Alasdair Gold believes Skipp has a better chance of staying at Spurs for the long run. Gold has discussed the two on the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast.

Skipp more likely to stay at Tottenham than Hojbjerg

Gold admitted that he’d like to see Skipp get a run in the Spurs side in Bissouma’s absence over the coming weeks.

The journalist added that Hojbjerg seems destined to leave North London, while Skipp could head out on loan next summer should his game time not improve.

“I’d like to see Postecoglou give him [Skipp] a shot in his natural position,” the journalist said. “I think he deserves it and let’s be honest, he’s more likely to have a long-term future than Hojbjerg.

Because of his lack of playing time, I still believe Skippy might be off next summer—possibly on a loan someplace.

However, Hojbjerg appears destined to depart. I’m just curious if giving Skipp a brief opportunity to run in there will benefit you more.

This season, Postecoglou has frequently called in Hojbjerg before Skipp, starting from the bench.

The “outstanding” Dane has shown promise in his bench work, but he hasn’t made an impact from the off.

Yet, Skipp came off the bench before Hojbjerg on Friday and the 23-year-old put in a decent display against Steve Cooper’s side.

It would be interesting to watch who Postecoglou goes to when Spurs visit Everton on Saturday.
