England’s Henry Arundell knocks back interest from two NRL clubs – report

England wing Henry Arundell has reportedly knocked back offers from two NRL clubs with the 21-year-old’s agent insisting that “reports of a possible move to rugby league are false.”

In his lone group play appearance for England in the Rugby World Cup this year, Arundell was incredible. Against Chile, the rising star finished with a five-try blitz. With a hat-trick on his Racing 92 debut, the Englishman’s explosive outside back brought that form back into club land.

The rugby community has taken notice of the try-scoring phenomenon thanks to these eye-catching performances, and it seems that interest in the young player goes beyond the 15-player contest.

News Corp Australia reported earlier this week that Arundell’s associates had reportedly contacted NRL rugby league teams to show interest in pulling off an unexpected code swap.

It was believed that a number of teams were interested in hiring the Racing 92 wing, and Arundell was eager to transfer; however, a more recent story claims that this has suffered a major knock.

According to Mail Sport, Arundell rejected off interest from the Wests Tigers, 2023 NRL wooden spooners, and the Dolphins, a Queensland-based tournament newcomer.

While acknowledging that NRL teams have shown interest in the wing, Arundell’s agent, Ryan Shahin of Twenty Sports Group, has categorically denied that Arundell has “entertained or considered” any offers.

“Players with Henry’s caliber captivate audiences virtually nonstop. While other NRL teams have contacted us recently, Henry has not given these any thought or entertained any inquiries of this nature, and we were very clear in our response, Ryan Shahin of Twenty Sports Group told The Daily Mail.

“All rumors suggesting a potential switch to rugby league are untrue. Henry is eager to play for Racing for the rest of the season, and maybe for England as well.

Australian rugby league clubs have expressed interest in other rugby union talents besides Arundell.

The 19-year-old NSW Waratahs outside back Max Jorgensen and Wallaby Mark Nawaqanitawase were also named amid rumors that the ARLC was thinking about granting salary budget exemptions for NRL teams that pursue talent from different codes.

The Wallabies’ bright spot amid a challenging year was Nawaqanitawase, who allegedly met with the Sydney Roosters.
