Following the Springboks’ victory in the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France, RugbyPass revealed via an Instagram post on Tuesday, November 14, that the SA Rugby offices were apparently broken into on Monday, November 13.

The statement released on Tuesday stated that the Webb Ellis Cup and other priceless trophies had been verified to be safe and sound in the SA Rigby headquarters. It was reported that on Monday evening, there was a break-in at the offices situated in the Western Cape’s Plattekloof district.
Rugby Pass stated, “On Monday night, SA Rugby offices were broken into and robes were stolen. Fortunately, the Webb Ellis trophy and other trophies were confirmed to be safe.”
Thankfully, the copy of the Webb Ellis trophy, which the Springboks won in Paris, France on October 28, after defeating the All Blacks in the Rugby World Cup final, was securely stored in an unlocked office, according to IOL.
The article further stated that Springbok captain Siya Kolisi is rumored to have carefully placed the trophy in a cabinet at SARU House following the team’s victory trip two weeks ago. The personnel at the SA Rugby headquarters was apparently instructed to work remotely following the egregious break-in the next day, according to Rugby365. The magazine said that a few unverified social media rumors claimed that whiskey, computers, and a small number of autographed jerseys were among the stolen goods.
