“Very, very good” – Fraser Forster says “brilliant” unsung Spurs player is training excellently

He’s not had much praise in comparison to Tottenham’s usual suspects.

Fraser Forster, the goalie for Tottenham Hotspur, praised a perhaps underappreciated Spurs player, adding that he has been training wonderfully in the background.

Simply put, onlookers have been completely outclassed by Ange Postecoglou’s table-topping Spurs team. After their top striker Harry Kane left for Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window, several predicted they would finish in the bottom half, but things haven’t quite worked out that way. Instead, the north Londoners have won six of their first eight Premier League games while being unbeaten, making them the division’s most in-form team on paper.

Few could have predicted the current campaign’s stunning start, especially in the wake of Kane’s departure. Yves Bissouma, Son Heung-min, Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Dejan Kulusevski, and James Maddison are a few other prominent players who have gained attention under Postecoglou. The latter has already contributed two goals and five assists while wearing a Spurs jersey since moving there for £40 million from Leicester City.

“I believed Tottenham should have acquired him three years prior with Harry (Kane) on the team. When he was at Leicester, I always thought he was ahead of players who were overtaking him in the England squad. I believe you would see the best of him now if there were better players around him, especially on that England team. He has grown up. He will be at his best for the next three to four years.

The aforementioned players have quite simply shone in a Lilywhites jersey, but Guglielmo Vicario, the team’s starting goalie, deserves more recognition.

Guglielmo Vicario praise

The Italian, who excelled for Empoli last year, caught the attention of Tottenham during the summer transfer window as chairman Daniel Levy tried to sign him for about £17.2 million. Since his arrival, Vicario has replaced longtime starter Hugo Lloris as Tottenham’s first choice keeper. Vicario has since made some vital saves, most recently against Luton.

Back-up In an interview with Tottenham’s Off The Shelf podcast, Spurs goalkeeper Forster praised his counterpart and mentioned how well Vicario trains.

“I think as you see this season, I think every game, even as a team the way we want to play, we look better and better at what we want to do because those relationships are coming and can only get stronger and better as the season goes on,” added Forster, who went on to praise Vicario.

The Tottenham goalie conceded, “He’s been terrific. “I believe that his game performances have been excellent, and he has produced significant saves. Coming to a new club or nation is difficult. He has benefited greatly from his excellent command of English.

“One of my Celtic teammates actually played with him in Empoli, and he’s been raving about him for years; as soon as he found out he was moving here, he said he’s a very, very good goalie. Best dude. He trains well and works hard, so it’s a good start for him. He has been excellent in the games and generally.
