’THAT GOOD ARROGANCE’: JERMAIN DEFOE CAN’T BELIEVE THE QUALITY OF ONE TOTTENHAM STAR

Jermain Defoe has heaped praise on James Maddison and how the Tottenham star can ‘handle the ball in any area’.

As he stated to Premier League Productions (25/09/23 at 5:15 pm), the former Premier League striker noted that Tottenham’s high-profile summer signing also has “that good arrogance” to his game.

That was demonstrated on Sunday when James Maddison recorded two assists against Arsenal in the north London derby; Jude Bellingham was impressed.

Although the quick-witted playmaker didn’t need to introduce himself to Spurs fans, he sure did at the Emirates. Spurs fans have already seen what the playmaker is all about.

Harry Kane’s departure would seem to have left a hangover, but players like James Maddison are making sure that’s not the case.

Now that Jermain Defoe is an academy coach at Tottenham, he would have observed the club’s newest star’s practices in addition to his on-field performances.

James Maddison on the ball

“You look at someone like James Maddison who, for me, is a Tottenham player, if that makes sense,” said Defoe. “He can handle the ball in any area. He is comfortable to do that.

“When Maddison gets on the ball, then as a forward player, you know that he will find you.

“One-v-one. Just a bit of brilliance (for Son’s goal) – He has that good arrogance.”

James Maddison connects with everyone

Son Heung-min, the captain of Tottenham, who has also praised him, or a different summer signing, Maddison connects with everyone on the field.

That’s the player’s beauty—he can easily be cast in the part of number 10, and everyone will sing and dance along with him.

Despite the fact that these early performances have been quite outstanding, it is now necessary to improve upon them throughout the remainder of the season because, if they do, European football will return.
