Postecoglou warned elite Tottenham star will become latest Real Madrid ‘Galactico’ amid big Liverpool comparison
Tottenham Hotspur have been urged to hand ‘top-quality’ star Micky van de Ven a new contract amid concerns Real Madrid will look to make him a ‘Galactico’ signing in an upcoming transfer window.
Last summer, Van De Ven was rumored to be heading to Liverpool, but Tottenham ended up acquiring him. The center back was signed by the North London team for an initial £34.5 million from Wolfsburg; if add-ons are signed, the deal could be worth £43 million.
Van De Ven and Cristian Romero forged a strong defensive alliance right on. The Dutchman’s absence from action from November 11 to December 31 due to injury was greatly missed, but he has since recovered from his hamstring problem and is once more deterring strikers.
He prevented players like Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jack Harrison from having shots at goal during the recent 2-2 draw with Everton by using his lightning-fast reflexes to recover and make crucial blocks. One extremely impressed journalist even went so far as to call him “Superman in a Rolls-Royce” after seeing his outstanding performance.
Stan Collymore, a former center forward for Nottingham Forest and Liverpool, has now drawn an interesting connection between Van De Ven and legendary Anfield player Steven Gerrard. While praising the 22-year-old defender profusely, he also sent Ange Postecoglou a strong warning over Madrid’s intention to send him to Spain.
“Everyone’s talking about him right now is how fast he can run the field. He was recorded at 37.38 km/h against Brentford last month, making him the fastest player in Premier League history. He’s really quick!”In his column for CaughtOffside, Collymore wrote.
Even if Spurs’ number 37 isn’t quite as quick on the ground as Van de Ven is, there are striking similarities between the two players’ running styles when you view footage of them.
Despite his lack of speed, Van de Ven appears to be a very good addition. Though he was sidelined for a significant portion of the season due to injury, Kudos to Spurs’ recruitment team for what appears to be one of the season’s top signings.

Collymore continued, “I think Spurs’ only concern will be holding hold of him long-term,” after claiming that Postecoglou would not be able to play his high defensive line without Van De Ven. Real Madrid or Manchester City may already have their sights set on him, so I wouldn’t be shocked if they made a move for him in the next season or two.
“Daniel Levy ought to have already begun working on a new contract for him, one that has a provision to keep the team from losing a player who is emerging as their greatest asset.”
Even though there aren’t any official connections between Van De Ven and Real Madrid or Manchester City just yet, it makes logical that the biggest teams in the world are keeping an eye on his play.
