Michigan Poised to Promote Kirk Campbell to Offensive Coordinator, per Report
After promoting its offensive coordinator from 2023 to head coach, Michigan is reportedly staying in-house at the offensive coordinator position as well.
As to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, the Wolverines have elevated quarterbacks coach Kirk Campbell to the position of offensive coordinator on Friday morning. He’ll take Sherrone Moore’s place as the next coach.
The 37-year-old Campbell joined Michigan’s staff in 2022 and was assigned to the position of offensive analyst. He was elevated to the position of quarterbacks coach in January 2023, succeeding Matt Weiss, who was let go following a university police probe into charges of illegal computer access.
Under Campbell’s tutelage, Wolverines quarterback J.J. McCarthy showed growth, tossing 22 touchdowns against only four interceptions in 15 games as Michigan captured the national championship.
Prior to joining the Wolverines, Campbell worked for five different universities, including Old Dominion and Penn State. From 2004 until 2007, he was a Division II player for Mercyhurst.
Michigan’s season begins on August 31 versus Fresno State. The team is facing an uncertain future due to NCAA investigations into claims of unlawful in-person scouting and recruitment during the pandemic, in addition to a challenging 2024 schedule.
