Pape Matar Sarr has returned from the Africa Cup of Nations following Senegal’s surprise elimination in the last-16 on Monday. Postecoglou confirmed that the midfielder will be included in the squad to face Everton.
An immediate return to the starting 11 seems a genuine possibility, especially after Oliver Skipp was withdrawn at half-time against Brentford due to “not playing well”, according to Postecoglou. Rodrigo Bentancur came off for the same reason but will likely retain his place.
There is concern that James Maddison might not be able to play games so close in succession after an ankle injury. However, his manager rubbished the idea that the playmaker could be used from the substitutes’ bench.
