Deion Sanders reveals cost for portal players, talks Miss Terry, why Nick Saban really retired
Deion Sanders admitted he hasn’t seen anything like what is happening in college football when it comes to the transfer portal.
The Colorado coach revealed how insane things had gone when he appeared with Robert Griffin III on “RGIII and The Ones.”
Sanders stated that “they need to just make it easier by jumping into the portal with what they cost,” and that “players should come with price tags.”
$50,000 will “get you a walk on these days,” he continued.
“I had never seen anything such. God be with their spirits,” he continued. “I’m glad for the young guys. Something is there. It’s just a lot of movement, but everything has a cost. It’s not only the children.
Sanders doesn’t think form Alabama coach Nick Saban retired because of the portal or NIL.
“Mainly because I know him and I know his art and I know he loves this game,” Sanders said. “But when you’re sitting there watching how this thing plays out and you’re watching the obstacles you gotta go through and You’re dealing with parents who are both agents and parents, or homies and the bagman. You have so much crazy stuff going on. And when I meet with parents and these young men, I get it, so I know he’s understanding it on a whole other level. Old school guys who have based their entire lives around hard effort, devotion, and attempting to treat people fairly no longer believe that formula will succeed. Though they don’t have the time, it still does. Coach has made some amazing contributions to our game. Coach has plenty of financial stability. I feel as though I don’t need this. I’m not in need of this.
Sanders also theorized that him having college-aged children while Saban’s are older plays a role.
Sanders did say he hopes to continue to act next to Saban in future commercials.
“Man, I just hope we do something with Aflac again because I like to glean from him every year,” he said. “I like to call him and ask his advice on certain things. There’s one thing he told me that I should’ve done, that I didn’t do, and it cost me. I can’t tell you what it is. I gotta give you the suspense, the drama of it. But I told him the
circumstances. I described what happened to him. And he explained to me how I ought to have handled it and how he had handled it previously. I also didn’t. just because I’m unique. I should have listened, but as an African-American coach, I face ten times the scrutiny and mockery. And I have to consider everything here. I adore that dude; he’s a nice one.
And what about his spouse? Should give a lesson to all coaches’ girlfriends, wives, or anything. She ought to conduct a stage management course. She’s right there with him, not behind him. And you’re referring to a dedication to quality? Whoa.
