‘He was fabulous’: Jamie Redknapp amazed by display of Tottenham player he has strongly criticised

Jamie Redknapp has issued his verdict on the performance of Cristian Romero after Tottenham Hotspur drew 2-2 with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Spurs received a significant lift from Cristian Romero before their matchup with Erik ten Hag’s team. The Argentine had not played since the days leading up to Christmas.

However, he returned to action against Manchester United, along with Micky van de Ven. During the first several weeks of the season, the two were outstanding as Ange Postecoglou’s team led the Premier League.

For Tottenham, the first half proved difficult. They were under 2-1 going into the half.Romero did not bask in triumph either, despite his inability to shut down Rasmus Hojlund for the first goal.

However, Tottenham was more superior in the second half of the game. Furthermore, Jamie Redknapp of Sky Sports (airing on January 14 at 18:30) asserted that the 25-year-old’s performance following the break truly proved him wrong.

“I’ve frequently been critical of Romero. Second-half, I felt he was amazing. Good decisions, defensively sound. He’s a great defender if he removes the bad disciple, he stated.

Spurs receive huge boost with both centre-backs now back

Tottenham fans will hope that they now get the Romero who was so impressive at the start of the season. Of course, it has been a turbulent time for the centre-back since his move.

Romero’s first campaign was just fantastic. However, his form drastically declined last season, along with several others’. Furthermore, the fact that he contributed to Argentina’s World Cup victory surely did not help.

Romero, though, has appeared to be returning to his best form this season alongside van de Ven. He was sent off against Chelsea in November because he made mistakes.Romero also challenged Newcastle in a crazy way. Still, there’s no denying his tremendous potential.

Whether Romero and van de Ven can reunite in that form will be interesting to watch. The second half on Sunday gave hope that they most certainly can.
