Journalist says club are not interested in selling Spurs target for under £40m
David Ornstein has revealed that Feyenoord are not entertaining any offers at the moment for rumoured Tottenham target Santiago Gimenez.
Gimenez has kept banging in the goals at an incredible rate at De Kuip over the last 18 months, with the striker turning even more heads this season, owing to his spectacular displays in the Champions League.
The Mexican appears to be on the verge of making the move to a larger club after breaking Luis Suarez’s record for the most goals in a calendar year (AS) in the Eredivisie last month.
That is likely why Tottenham are considered to be quite keen on the 22-year-old, with various reports over the past couple of months stating that the Lilywhites view the player as a potential heir to Harry Kane (Mirror).
However, Journalist Pete O’Rourke revealed in his column on Football Insider last month that Feyenoord have no intention of letting their star striker leave mid-season and have slapped a £60m price tag on the player to warn off suitors.
Feyenoord want to keep Santiago Gimenez for now
Ornstein, who maintained that the Eredivisie club is desperate to hang on to the star player, has now backed up this.
In regards to Gimenez, the reporter stated on the BBC Transfer Gossip Daily Podcast: “I really like what I’ve seen of him, but there is that Dutch caution.”
“I was on a call about him today and it was made very clear to me how desperately Feyenoord need to keep him this season, even though I had no idea we would be talking about this.”
“They’re in Europe, so they have the opportunity to qualify for the Champions League, which would be worth more than a sale price. If it rises to the $40s or higher, things might change, but as of right now, I doubt they’re considering any offers.”
It would suit Tottenham if Feyenoord’s plan is to hold on to Gimenez until next summer as the North Londoners are unlikely to pursue a centre-forward during the current transfer window, particularly following Timo Werner’s arrival.
