After joining Tottenham in 2013, Ben Davies is currently the second-longest-serving member of the team (only Hugo Lloris has been with the team longer).

The injury suffered by Micky van de Ven at the beginning of last month has put the 30-year-old, who is still incredibly trustworthy, back at the center of the Lilywhites defense this season.

Since joining Spurs five games ago, Davies has started all five of them and has played the entire ninety minutes in each (Transfermarkt). He performed exceptionally well against Newcastle United this past weekend and has established himself as a dependable partner for vice captain Cristian Romero. The fact that Davies made a vital interception early on to stop Newcastle from taking the lead is undeniable. The game would end with a 4-1 victory for Spurs.

Ange Postecoglou is a fan of Ben Davies

Although the majority of Davies’ current run of games has been due to van de Ven’s absence, he has taken advantage of his opportunity and is making an impression on his boss, Ange Postecoglou. It appears that he is also making an impression on Alasdair Gold.

Ben Davies played really well again, and Postecoglou seems to adore him. Gold stated as much on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham podcast. “He definitely looks so much more comfortable alongside a natural center-back,”

He discussed how he had to effectively convert Ben Davies into a center defender this season even after the game. Like Ben Davies mentioned, he’s played with a variety of different people in the role; he’s just kind of come in, no fuss, done what he’s had to do.

“He has never had a committed partner; he has played briefly with Dier, Emerson, Van de Ven, and certainly Romero back now. We’ll have to wait and see what happens with Van de Ven; if all goes according to plan, he might return in mid- to late-January.

“Romero and Davies could get a little together as a partnership, as long as Romero doesn’t receive another red card or this fifth yellow card because he’s now on four.”

While I felt Davies made a few blunders and seemed off pace against West Ham, he more than made up for it against Newcastle. My disappointment with Davies during that match was minor. Because he is such a dependable player, we should have no trouble keeping him in the lineup through January.
