Legend Federica Pellegrini Takes Another Shot at Jannik Sinner

Jannik Sinner’s return to the ATP tour is getting closer and closer, considering that the Italian ace regularly appears in the entry list of the Rome Masters 1000 (the last huge tournament before Roland Garros). The world number 1 is finishing serving the three-month ban that was imposed on him after his agreement with WADA, which prevented him from getting to the trial in front of the CAS in Lausanne forcing him to miss six tournaments in total (including four Masters 1000).

The 23-year-old from Sesto Pusteria would have liked to take his case to the end, having been cleared of all charges in the first instance and wanting to make everyone understand his total innocence in this story. However, his team of lawyers preferred to avoid any risk and made him understand that it was a reasonable compromise.

This ban allowed Jannik to remain out of the ATP tour in the only segment of the season in which there are no Grand Slam tournaments. In addition, the Italian ace will be able to return to action in Rome in front of his fans and play some matches before the French Open (the 3-time Grand Slam champion will also play the Hamburg ATP before flying to Paris at the end of May).

Sinner is almost ready to return

Not everyone liked the controversial agreement between Sinner and WADA, which represented a significant precedent in the future.

In a recent interview with ‘La Repubblica’, swimming legend Federica Pellegrini again expressed her point of view on the Sinner case: “I understand that Jannik has become everyone’s idol in Italy and there is a tendency to defend him at every opportunity, but I am convinced that he has been treated differently than the others.

If a member of my team uses a cream and then I test positive for a banned product, the responsibility falls on me. This concept is the same for everyone, Sinner is no exception.”

Despite his absence from the tennis courts, the champion from Sesto Pusteria will return to action as world number 1.
