Tottenham Star’s Shock Departure Looms as Lucrative Offer Emerges

Son Heung-min could follow Ange Postecoglou out of the door at Tottenham.
Son capped his decade-long service to Tottenham by lifting the UEFA Europa League trophy, cementing his place in Spurs folklore.
Nevertheless, the South Korean has seen his influence on the first team slowly diminish over the last two seasons, leading to him being linked with a move away from Tottenham.
The departure of Postecoglou, who had an excellent relationship with Son, may accelerate the process as the forward considers the latest news emerging from Saudi Arabia.
Son has indicated he would accept Tottenahm exit
As reported in The Telegraph (6 June), Son has left some of his teammates and the staff at Tottenham under the impression that he could leave the North London club this summer, amid interest from Saudi Arabia.
Tottenham’s talisman made history with the Lliywhites this season, but struggled to reach the lofty heights he had previously reached, despite still notching double figures in both goals and assists.
Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
2024/25 | 46 | 11 | 12 |
2023/24 | 36 | 17 | 10 |
2022/23 | 47 | 14 | 6 |
2021/22 | 45 | 24 | 10 |
2020/21 | 51 | 22 | 18 |
Son’s statistics for Tottenham in the last five years across all competitions
Son’s age could slowly be catching up to him, and ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively with Tottenham News – believes the 32-year-old could cash in on a big-money offer from Saudi Arabia.
“Son will get a big-money contract if he moves to Saudi Arabia,” King said.
“Everyone else who has gone there has received a big-money offer, so why would a player of Son’s stature not receive that same kind of offer.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if Tottenham receive a similar fee for Son as they did for Harry Kane. Son has been at Tottenham for 10 years, and he’s been a marvellous servant to the club. He has one year left on his contract, and Tottenham could cash in, as could the player.
“If Son does head to Saudi Arabia, he won’t have to worry for the rest of his life, nor will his family. However, Tottenham will need to find a replacement for a player of that quality.”
Spurs will face a difficult task to replace Son
Son’s legacy at Tottenham will be remembered for two things: his special footballing abilities and his equally remarkable character.
The forward has terrorised Premier League opposition for years, matching his incredible pace and ability to find a pass with a keen eye for goal, which saw him win the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2021/22 season.
He has also emerged as a leader, setting an example with his work ethic and positive attitude, which Postecoglou recognised by bestowing him with the captain’s armband.
Both these traits have grown in significance over time, and would not only be sorely missed should he depart, but also very difficult to replace for Spurs.
