Indiana fans have been wondering what in the world happened when it came to former Indiana commit Harun Zrno, who de-committed from the Hoosiers one day after head coach Darina DeVries was hired. Well, it now seems a little bit of light is being shed on that whole situation.
After DeVries was hired at Indiana, a lot of things happened. Every player on the roster entered the transfer portal, DeVries had to build his entire coaching staff, and one of his only two commits de-committed one day after he was hired.
It seemed like Zrno de-committed because he chose Indiana when Mike Woodson was still the head coach, but it seems there was another reason why the big-bodied sharp-shooter chose to leave the Hoosiers.

The Indiana Daily Student, a student news organization at Indiana University, did some digging as to why Zrno de-committed from the Hoosiers and got some answers. The organization reached out to Zrno’s agent, Steven Petrovic, asking why the Bosnian wing chose to look elsewhere after DeVries was hired and the answer is shocking.
Petrovic said that he reached out to DeVries four times, twice over text message and twice over the phone, and never heard back from the news Hoosiers leading man. When DeVries was announced as the new head coach on March 18, Petrovic reached out but never heard anything back, leading to Zrno’s de-commitment on March 19.
“We waited for Indiana to come back to us and get in touch with us,” Petrovic told the Indiana Daily Student. “Never heard back from him, that was the only reason why we decommitted because, at that point, we had to go ahead and move on from Indiana”
Arno was a highly sought-after wing player when he opened up his recruitment in Bosnia. The 6-foot-7 Arno averaged 17.5 points per game, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.6 assists while playing for KK Slavjia in 14 games, shooting 50% from the field and 43.7% from three-point range. With his size and ability to shoot, Zrno is a prime recruit that any program would want.
Zrno made it clear when he committed that he wanted to play for Indiana because he loved the atmosphere and felt welcomed. Clearly, it doesn’t seem like he felt that way when DeVries was hired, hence his de-commitment.
“It’s nothing that Harun wanted to do, absolutely not, but we could not wait any more on Indiana to get back to us, and they never did,” Petrovic said. “He felt it would be a great place to play and he fell in love with everything Indiana had to offer.”
Indiana Athletics has yet to comment on the situation.
Since his de-commitment, Zrno has looked at Villanova and Miami as potential target schools, but he isn’t closing the door on Indiana. If the Hoosiers were to reach out, Zrno is primed and ready to listen, but DeVries needs to pick up the phone.
