As he prepares to make his much-awaited return to competitive tennis, the Aussie did not hold back in criticizing the Italian, who has faced criticism after two failed drugs tests earlier this year.

The Italian champion, who won his maiden US Open title in 2024, tested positive for the banned anabolic steroid clostebol during Indian Wells and again eight days later. However, Sinner successfully appealed both cases, arguing that the minuscule amount of the substance found in his system was due to contamination. This explanation satisfies an independent tribunal, allowing him to avoid suspension and continue competing. Kyrgios, however, remains unconvinced and has made his intentions clear: he wants a face-off with Sinner at Melbourne Park, where he plans to harness the energy of the Australian crowd.

Discussing his strategy against Sinner on the Nothing Major podcast, Kurtis said, “Let’s be honest, I just want to go out there and play him. I thought about this. If I played him in the Australian Open, I would just get every single person in the crowd to get on him. I would just turn it into an absolute riot.” Emphasising his desire to win at any cost, the 28-year-old added, “All respect would go out the window, and I would just do anything to win.”

Kyrgios also expressed his belief in the importance of contrasting personalities in sports, which he says draw viewers and spark excitement. “If I draw Sinner in the Australian Open third round, everyone will watch because it’s contrasting personalities. We don’t like each other, and I think it’s healthy in sport,” he remarked.

After a two-year struggle with recurring injuries, Kyrgios is gearing up for his return to professional tennis in January.
