Kaizer Chiefs news: Three attackers, two Bafana stars, R35 million

 Transfer story wrap from Monday.

Kaizer Chiefs are on the lookout for quality midfielders, strikers and top Bafana Bafana prospects. Who’s on the list?

Chiefs chasing two massive Bafana prospects

Cape Town Spurs winger Asanele Velebayi is a long-standing target. Thought of as a massive prospect for Bafana Bafana, the 21-year-old has winger been with Spurs for a decade and their CEO wants to get the maximum value out of a sale, should it come to that. Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr outright refuted reports that the club had directly contacted Asanele Velebayi’s parents to engineer a move for the winger. Velebayi, still only 21, was the name on everyone’s lips during the recent winter transfer window. Spurs CEO Ari Efstathiou valued the player around R12 million, while Amakhosi’s reported offer was closer to R5 million. Watch this space in January.

The one that got away

According to SoccerLaduma, Amakhosi are closely following Puso Dithejane’s performance with TS Galaxy. The former Chiefs academy product has thrived in the number 10 role since his acrimonious departure from Naturena.

Kaizer Chiefs aim to sharpen up their attack

Elias Mokwana, Khanyisa Mayo and Iqraam Rayners are other South African attackers who’ve made big moves either abroad or within the Betway Premiership. Mokwana moved to Esperance for 370k (R7.2 million), Rayners switched to Sundowns for an undisclosed fee although his estimated transfer value now stands at R35 million (evidence of the power Sundowns have over the market) and Mayo is in Algeria with Belouizdad in a deal which cost his new employers €750k (R14.5 million).

The midfield maestro hunt continues

Chiefs are continually linked with moves for Sphelele Mkhulise, Bongani Zungu and others. Zungu is a free agent after being released by Sundowns while 28-year-old Mkhulise is on the fringes of the first team under Manqoba Mngqithi. However, the Downs boss has maxed lyrical about the playmaker’s ability and natural talents.
