In an unexpected post on social media on Monday, it was “reported” that Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers was leaving the program to prepare for the upcoming NFL draft.
The news came after the Longhorns lost their Week 8 matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs, and also saw him play one of the worst games of his career. Ewers’ showing early in the 30-15 loss was so poor that he was actually benched late in the second quarter in favor of Arch Manning. He came back into the game in the second half and sparked a bit of a comeback, but it wasn’t enough.
It also didn’t help quiet down the rumors when it was reported earlier in the day that Ewers didn’t speak to the media on Monday as he normally does. So as one could imagine, when 247Sports’ Instagram account posted that he was leaving the team, there were many questions as to what was true or not. 247 posted this on IG and then immediately deleted…could Quinn Ewers opting out really be on the table? I find this hard to believe.

As for the report itself, ESPN’s Pete Thamel confirmed that Ewers leaving the team wasn’t true. Ewers also took to social media to shut down the notion with a gif of Donald Trump saying, “Fake News.” Ewers, who was named the starter by Steve Sarkisian after the game, and the Longhorns will return to action on Saturday against the No. 25 Vanderbilt Commodores.
