Colts select Alabama DL Tim Smith in 2025 NFL Draft
Alabama football another defensive player go off the board in the 2025 NFL Draft on Day 3. Former Crimson Tide defensive lineman Tim Smith was selected 190th overall by the Indianapolis Colts in the sixth of the draft.
Smith becomes the seventh Alabama player selected in addition to Tyler Booker, Jihaad Campbell, Jalen Milroe, Malachi Moore, Que Robinson and Robbie Ouzts.
Smith joined the Crimson Tide in the 2020 recruiting class. He made 14 tackles his freshman season in Tuscaloosa, as UA won its most recent national championship.
The Florida native stuck around through the coaching transition from Nick Saban to Kalen DeBoer ahead of the 2024 season. He started every game for the Crimson Tide during his final year, finishing with 35 tackles, including two sacks.
Listed at 6-foot-4, 314 pounds last season, Smith has the size needed to be an effective NFL defensive tackle. He also demonstrated some versatility around the defensive line, and can utilize his strength to show off a solid bull rush.
Criticisms of Smith’s game include a tendency to stand up out of his stance and ineffective use of his hands in the pass rush. He was largely expected to go undrafted entering the weekend.
Smith spent five seasons with Alabama, and explained to reporters at the NFL Combine why he opted to remain in Tuscaloosa for his graduate year.
“To make sure I was complete for whatever team that got me,” Smith said in Indianapolis. “Forever grateful for whatever team does take me, but like I said, just to make sure I’m fully developed before I do make that step.”
Smith joins offensive guard Tyler Booker, who was selected 12th overall by the Dallas Cowboys, linebacker Jihaad Campbell, who the Philadelphia Eagles picked up at No. 31, quarterback Jalen Milroe, who received a phone call from the Seattle Seahawks in the third round at No. 92, Malachi Moore to the New York Jets at 130th, outside linebacker Que Robinson to the Denver at 134, and tight end Robbie Ouzts joined Milroe in Seattle at No. 175.
