AMAZING :See who breaks into Top 10 Springbok try scorers list

With his second-half try at the Mbombela Stadium last Saturday, Malcolm Marx extended his lead as the Springboks’ leading FORWARD try scorer.

With his second-half try at the Mbombela Stadium last Saturday, hooker Malcolm Marx extended his lead as the Springboks’ leading FORWARD try scorer.

In addition, he broke into the Top 10 list of Springbok try scorers.

In dotting down for the five-pointer in South Africa’s 48-7 win against Argentina, Marx joined former Springbok wing Pieter Rossouw in a tie for NINTH place overall on 21 tries.

Marx, who is still only 30 years old, was playing in his 73rd Test in Nelspruit.

Up next for Marx is the 24 tries scored by JP Pietersen.

Second among the forwards is Schalk Burger jnr with 16 tries (86 Tests), while Bongi Mbonambi rounds out the ‘podium’ with 15 tries in 75 Tests.

Marx and Rossouw are tied for 26th place in the list of most Test points scored in a Springbok jersey with 105.

They have Cheslin Kolbe (101 points) breathing down their necks – and Gaffie du Toit ahead of them on 108 points.

MOST TRIES

It’s fairly common knowledge that former wing Bryan Habana is the all-time leading Springbok Test try scorer.

Habana dotted down 67 times in his 124 Tests for South Africa.

That number is well ahead of the 38 tries scored by the late Joost van der Westhuizen.

The leading active player is Makazole Mapimpi (fourth place) with 30 tries in his 45 Tests, but he’s closer to the end rather than the start of his international career.
