Nasreddine Nabi furious after Kaizer Chiefs surrender lead to Mamelodi Sundowns – ‘The demons of last year came back, it’s unacceptable’

WHAT HAPPENED?
Kaizer Chiefs lost 2-1 to Mamelodi Sundowns in a Premier Soccer League match at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
After taking the lead through Ranga Chivaviro, Chiefs gave away their advantage as Masandawana launched a comeback through Iqraam Rayners and Lucas Ribeiro Costa.
It left Amakhosi coach Nasreddine Nabi an angry man as he feels his side went back to last season’s mode.
WHAT NABI SAID
“I didn’t come with a new strategy, this is the DNA of Kaizer Chiefs, the DNA, maybe I awakened the slumber, it’s normal if you are a player in Kaizer Chiefs, you have a specific DNA, specific characteristics, personality, you dislike losing,” Nabi told the media after the game at the FNB Stadium.
“You want to win every time, you have a winning mentality, for that… after the goal of Sundowns, we observed some players were down. The demons of last year came back after the goal of Sundowns.
“This mentality I don’t accept that, it’s possible to concede a goal but that mentality [that I saw] I don’t accept that. I don’t accept that,” the Tunisian added.
“Yes, I don’t change much, because I am in my first step of strategy – it’s my first step.
“You think I’m happy about today? I am not happy really because I dislike losing. Maybe the performance is better than last season but this is Kaizer Chiefs, you don’t accept losing and be happy because you played a good second half?” he continued.
“What is that? It’s unacceptable – if you want to seriously know what Kaizer Chiefs is? You don’t know? Sorry, you don’t have a place here, it’s clear.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Nabi will be hoping the Soweto giants’ defeat will not see them slipping back to last season’s struggles.
The Tunisian mentor will be trying to motivate his men and guard against losing confidence after the defeat by Sundowns.
Saturday’s match was a big test which placed Amakhosi under check after their positive start to the season.
WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?
Amakhosi will now look to pick themselves up when they visit SuperSport United on 26 October.
They come up against a wounded Matsatsantsa who also lost to Cape Town City on Saturday.
