DEADLINE DAY MADNESS: Orlando Pirates hijack Kaizer Chiefs target
Kaizer Chiefs have been tracking the in-form Bafana star Oswin Appollis. However, Orlando Pirates might be here to ruin the party.
KAIZER CHIEFS’ INTEREST IN APPOLLIS IS OBVIOUS
This week’s hottest story has been a public declaration of interest in Oswin Appollis by Chiefs’ Sporting Director, Mr Motaung Jnr. Appollis scored a brace for Bafana in their recent 3-2 win over South Sudan and has become the subject of a long transfer saga. Appollis is a target
. Amakhosi faithful would be devastated if the club doesn’t pull off a move for the talented 23-year-old Polokwane City star. He’s hot property. Capturing him would be a statement. Missing out on his signature, however, would be an embarrassment
BUCS ENTER THE FRAY?
“Polokwane City look set to lose this most prized possession [Appollis], with Soweto giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs believed to be interested,” an insider told SoccerLaduma.
“The Buccaneers are understood to have stepped up their chase in the player and could beat their rivals to the signing of the enterprising attacker,” he added
WHY WOULD APPOLLIS BE SO EXPENSIVE?
Elias Mokwana, Khanyisa Mayo and Iqraam Rayners are other South African attackers who’ve made big moves either abroad or within the Betway Premiership. Mokwana moved to Esperance for €370k (R7.2 million), Rayners switched to Sundowns for an undisclosed fee although his estimated transfer value now stands at R35 million (evidence of the power Sundowns have over the market) and Mayo is in Algeria with Belouizdad in a deal which cost his new employers €750k (R14.5 million). Now, Mayo’s value according to transfermarkt is double the price that Cape Town City recouped for the striker. Appollis could easily and justifiably fetch a bigger fee than all three.

Nasreddine Nabi and Amakhosi management will have the final say on who they release.

Ultimately, it is essential that they recruit clinical finishers in front of goal if they are to compete with the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.
