Some good news on the injury front.
Bongani Sam picked up an injury during Kaizer Chiefs’ tour to Turkey but he’s returned to full training and raring to go. We also have news on some attacking targets.
CHIEFS TO HAND SAM A DEBUT AGAINST GALLANTS
Left-back has been a problem position for Chiefs in recent seasons. Sifiso Hlanti was entrusted with the role but never had the dynamism and attacking impetus to excel there. After he was released, Chiefs looked thin on options but have moved quickly to secure former Orlando Pirates star Sam and 22-year-old Bradley Cross from Golden Arrows. When he makes his Chiefs bow, Sam will become the fifth player in history to represent every elite club in Soweto. The injury news on six other Amakhosi stars isn’t so positive though.

“It’s an honour for me to be one of the players who played for all the teams in Soweto and I’m really happy and excited and I can’t wait for the season to start,” he told SuperSport. Chiefs’ Sporting Director
Kaizer Motaung Jr has lauded Sam’s experience and quality, citing his own excitement over the deal:
“We are really excited to have Bongani Sam in our fold. Given his age, which is 26, he has amassed quite a bit of experience having played for several teams in the Premiership since he started his top-flight career seven years ago. We do wish him well and we know he will fit in as part of the Kaizer Chiefs family,” he told the club’s official website.
NO SPACE FOR MTHETHWA?
According to iDiskiTimes, Chiefs boss Nasreddine Nabi sees no future for midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa at Narurena. Sibongiseni Mthethwa’s stats for the 2023-2024 season are curious. He only made 18 appearances in the league but notched up 55 completed tackles. That equates to 3.05 tackles per game. The Ox has the ingredients to boss games from the base of midfield but he needs to show it in the moments that matter.

Thatayaone Ditlhokwe and Spiwe Msimango were the club’s first-choice duo last term while new boys Rushwin Dortley and Inacio Miguel will want to stake an immediate claim in Nasreddine Nabi’s starting XI from day one. 22-year-old Dortley started both of Bafana’s recent Afcon qualifiers; a 2-2 draw with Uganda and a 3-2 win against South Sudan.
