The 2024 Premier Soccer League pre-season transfer window is close to hitting gear five. The pressure remains on Kaizer Chiefs.
We’re almost three months into the transfer window. Kaizer Chiefs have signed four new players and a few more are expected. Here’s our weekly feature on the latest reports since last week.
BRADLEY CROSS TO AMAKHOSI
In case you havn’t been aware, Kaizer Chiefs’ first signing of the window was Bongani Sam in July. Unfortunately, the 23-year-old left-back suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (acl) that will keep him out for a few more months.
Meanwhile, Amakhosi are set to announce a new left-back.
Reports say Golden Arrows’ left-back, Bradley Cross, who formerly played at Newcastle in England, is coming to Soweto.
WHO IS BRADLEY CROSS?
Cross joined Schalke’s U19s in Germany after playing at Mpumalanga Black Aces and Bidvest Wits, moved to Newcastle’s U21s in 2022 . The Johannesburg-born star returned to Mzansi in 2022 to train with SuperSport United, where coach Gavin Hunt was impresed before Cross disappeared to Kaizer Chiefs. Unfortunately for Cross, former Amakhosi coach Arthur Zwane was not convinced.
Cross later joined Maritzburg United before leaving them for Golden Arrows last season.
KAIZER CHIEFS TO SECURE CROSS FROM GOLDEN ARROWS
After failing to secure the likes of Fawaaz Basadien from Stellenbosch FC, and Riaan Hanamub from AmaZulu, Amakhosi have turned to Cross.
According to iDiski Times’ Sinethemba Makonco, Kaizer Chiefs and Abafana Bes’thende have agreed on terms for the transfer.
“Kaizer Chiefs have reached an agreement with Lamontville Golden Arrows for the transfer of Bafana Bafana defender Bradley Cross,” the report said.
“The 23-year-old made 24 appearances in all competitions, and he also caught the attention of Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos, who picked him for his squad that participated in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November against Rwanda and Benin.
“iDiski Times understands that Chiefs reached an agreement with Arrows for Cross for an undisclosed fee. The left-footer has already left Arrows and is expected to do his medicals and complete personal terms imminently,” the report added.
KAIZER CHIEFS’ FIRST FIVE BETWAY PREMIERSHIP FIXTURES
Pre-season will eventually end for Amakhosi. With around two weeks to go, here’s a look at Kaizer Chiefs’ first five fixtures for the 2024/2025 Betway Premiership.
The Soweto giants will start the season on 14 September in Bloemfontein. It is where Marumo Gallants have decided to play their home games at the Toyota Stadium this season.
Match day two will see Amakhosi host a home game against Stellenbosch FC on 22 September. The third game will be a trip to Durban’s AmaZulu on 25 September, before the fearsome champions Mamelodi Sundowns visit the Glamour Boys at the FNB Stadium on 28 September.

MALIWA WANTS TO TAKE CHIEFS BACK ‘TO THE GLORY DAYS’
“We all know what a big, great Club this is. I am really happy to be here,” he said. “I am here to try to take the Club to another level in terms of scouting and recruitment.
“My plan is to identify and bring in the players that will take Amakhosi back to the glory days.”
In the current transfer window, set to close on 20 September 2024, the Soweto giants have been hampered in their efforts to strengthen their squad due to ridiculous transfer fees. The latest players to be linked with big transfer fees are Asanele Velebayi, Fawaaz Basadien, and Thabang Matuludi.
Cape Town Spurs are reportedly demanding R12 million from Chiefs for the services of Velebayi, while Stellenbosch FC have placed a similar price tag on Basadien. Additionally, Polokwane City FC are asking for R10 million for Matuludi’s signature.
To unearth talented players without necessarily breaking the bank, Maliwa will likely focus his search on the African continent, Chiefs’ youth academy, the ABC Motsepe, and the National First Division. This approach aims to uncover hidden gems that possess the potential to contribute to Chiefs’ success while avoiding exorbitant transfer fees.
