Leonardo Castro warns Gaston Sirino after Kaizer Chiefs transfer – ‘There are players with talent but no ambition at Amakhosi’
WHAT HAPPENED?
Kaizer Chiefs signed Gaston Sirino after his Mamelodi Sundowns contract was terminated by mutual consent.
Sirino joined Chiefs at a time when former Sundowns players like Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly struggled to make an impact at Naturena and they were released.
Former Chiefs forward Leonardo Castro feels the current crop of players at the Soweto giants have no ambition to bring trophies to the club.

WHAT CASTRO SAID
“Moving to Chiefs is all part of the job, which has come after a successful stay at Sundowns, where they always have a lot of players,” Castro told KickOff.
“I have told Gaston the truth about Chiefs, and he knows it. Chiefs is a club that will treat you well and Gaston has already felt it.
“Truth is that if Chiefs want to play with youngsters, then it is going to be difficult to compete against [the] experience and quality of Sundowns, who are competing in North Africa,” the Colombian added.
“You cannot be celebrating kasi football players at Chiefs because that is for Sunday League football and not professional soccer.
“Soccer is about being quick in making decisions and some of the players need to have the hunger and desire to see themselves moving beyond Chiefs,” Castro continued.
“Siyabonga Ngezana and Njabulo Blom were also listening and worked hard to move it abroad, but other players are still just enjoying being there even when not playing regularly.
“There are players with talent but no ambition at Chiefs. I was there at Chiefs and was honest about this and with the coach that they have now [Nasreddine Nabi], their fans deserve happiness now,” he added.
“It still hurts me that I never won trophies at Chiefs after losing the league title in the last game and lost the Champions League final,” he concluded.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Castro has always been outspoken about Chiefs players and once opened up about the abuse of alcohol being a problem at Naturena.
He now issues some advice to Sirino who carries a lot of expectations on him following his move to Chiefs who have not won a trophy since 2015.
After some transfer blunders by Amahosi in recent years, Sirino will be out to show that he has the ambition to help the Soweto giants win trophies.
WHAT NEXT FOR SIRINO?
Chiefs fans will have to wait until 14 September to see Sirino in competitive action in what will be the day Amakhosi visit Marumo Gallants for their Premier Soccer League opener.
The Uruguayan, together with other new signings, will be under scrutiny to see if they are a material fit to play for the Soweto giants.
